The A-42PE aircraft is designed to accomplish long-time patrolling of blue-water and littoral areas, and to perform search-and-rescue missions.

The aircraft is fitted with the "Sea Dragon" Search-and-Sighting System, the ARIA-V Integrated Fight-and-Navigation system, and an airborne communication system.

The A-42PE is powered by two D-27A turboprop-fan engines, and one PD-33AC booster engine.
